Mankind has recently made a habit of making the same delusional mistake over and over again as a whole with a hunk of the blame going towards the influence of television tough guy fantasies, and another hunk of the blame actually stemming from how safe we as Americans actually are in our country. Most of us are extremely comfortable in believing that we will NEVER be the person who ends up a victim. And we leave the doors of our homes unlocked to prove it!
The effect from Hollywood is that magical, pretend stories that we eat with our eyeballs have led us to subconsciously feel as if we're just as indestructible as the guy on tv, as long as we buy and own a gun. We convince ourselves that everyone we walk past who doesn't even know us somehow knows we have a gun in our basement locked away, therefore they are scared to death of us leaving us safe. We have become loose with the responsibilities of harboring deadly weapons, respecting them, and even more so, mastering the ability to use it expertly so we can do what we have to do if the time ever comes.
